Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Medical Center, located in Moreno Valley, is currently seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse. Candidates must possess a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the state of CA and a BLS certificate. One year of experience working in an Operating Room is required. RUHS includes the 439-bed Medical Center in Moreno Valley accredited by the Joint Commission, 10 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), specialty clinics, and the departments of Behavioral and Public Health. RUHS is a teaching organization that provides training for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, and is affiliated with Loma Linda University, University of California System and Western University of Health Sciences. The RUHS-Medical Center is a Level II Trauma Center and provides high quality adult and pediatric acute care, emergency and trauma medical care, and specialized health services that include the Stroke Center and chronic disease management. The RUHS is committed to the health and well-being of all communities in Riverside County.DEPARTMENT DETAILSRiverside University Health System (RUSH) - Medical Center's ten-suite operating room provides 24 hour a day service to specialties including: Endoscopy, Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT), General and Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Organ Procurement through One Legacy, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, and Spine Surgery. The Same Day Surgery Unit offers optimum patient outcomes following surgical intervention provided for all specialties. RUHS brings together the latest technology and resources to practice high standards of care for patients of all ages. Under the same nurse manager, our SDS, PACU and GI lab work closely together to insure continuous quality patient care. JOB DESCRIPTIONUnder general supervision, to perform professional nursing duties in the care of patients at the Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Medical Center; to assist physicians and carry out their orders; may coordinate a continuum of care for a selected group of patients from pre-admission through post-discharge; and to do other related work as required. Incumbents in the Registered Nurse II class perform the full range of professional nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act with a minimum of supervision and periodic in-service training within the following units: Conscious Sedation, Operating Room of the RUHS - Medical Center. Assignment as a Registered Nurse II - Specialty Care - T2 is governed by Article 4, Section 3(E)(1) and Article 28, Section 1(A) of the current SEIU Terms and Conditions of Employment (TCE). Failure to sustain the necessary requirements will result in the employee's inability to continue working and disciplinary action shall be instituted in accordance with Article 11 of the TCE. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIESWithin the full scope of the Nurse Practice Act, assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of, and prepare patients for, medical treatment. Assist physicians in administering treatments and in performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations. As directed, administer or dispense prescribed treatment and medications to patients; chart treatment and dispensing to patients, and record and report significant changes in condition and general progress of patient. Counsel and advise patients, families and significant others regarding special medical problems and/or proper healthcare methods. Prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physicians' orders; may transcribe physicians' orders to working records. May provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, ROP and nursing students. May participate in quality assurance reviews; may act as a team leader or relief charge nurse. Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs. May triage patients by reviewing admissions charts and merging patients into the clinic flow at the appropriate time and place. May testify in court as to the client's mental and physical condition. May coordinate and monitor patients through the hospitalization process utilizing physicians, primary care nurses, and third party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility. May review the post hospital care plan with the patient/family, establishing a contact regarding timeframes and responsibilities; follow plan through a discharge. RECRUITING GUIDELINESRegistered Nurse II: Education: Successful completion of the coursework required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Experience: Completion of one year of Operarting Room/SDS experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital. Evaluations and references must show proficiency of practice as a Registered Nurse. Registered Nurse III: Education: Successful completion of the coursework required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing or National Certification in a nursing specialty may be considered in lieu of one year of experience. A Master's degree in Nursing may be considered in lieu of two years of experience. Experience: Four years of full time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility or community health agency with references and evaluations to show appropriate skill level. At least one year of which, was working in an Operating Room/SDS in an acute care hospital. Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing; medical terminology and patient care routine appropriate to clinical setting; medical instruments and equipment; the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; community resources available to provide patient care and follow-up; federal, State and local laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing; identification of potential discharge needs; payor source documentation requirements and governmental regulations affecting reimbursement. Ability to: Perform the full range of nursing duties and responsibilities in a patient care setting; plan and organize nursing plans for patients; prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and fellow employees; secure the cooperation of employees to work effectively together; assist in the instruction of entry-level nurses and ancillary personnel; keep abreast of developments in area of nursing specialization; evaluate the medical records of hospital admissions; make recommendations regarding continued stay necessity; identify discharge needs. OTHER REQUIREMENTSLicense/Certificate: Must possess and maintain a current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Possession of valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association for professional healthcare providers.
