Job Description:


The County of Riverside- Riverside University Health System-Medical Center is currently recruiting experienced Registered Nurses both Regular Fulltime and Per Diem, to work in the Regulatory Compliance Department. This position will, under general direction of the Healthcare Administrative Surveyor- Accreditation & Regulatory Readiness department, provide guidance in the hospital accreditation and regulatory readiness surveys, activities and improvements, assist management to achieve and sustain compliance with internal and external standards/regulations and principles of patient safety. The RN Specialist for Continuous Survey Readiness (CSR) coordinates efforts of clinical and support roles to include patient safety, performance improvement, quality, infection prevention and control, compliance, and clinical services to meet compliance needs.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a Bachelor of Nursing degree (BSN), 3-5 years RN experience in an acute care hospital setting, progressive leadership skills, involvement with performance improvement and survey readiness activities, and knowledge of regulatory requirements, Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Conditions of Participation, standards of The Joint Commission (TJC), California Code of Regulation (Title 22) as applicable to the entity

  • Professionalism/Integrity - Models high standards of principles, values and ethics through professional duties, and personal actions in the organization.
  • Collaborates to identify accreditation/regulatory compliance improvement opportunities/priorities, assist with the development of accreditation/regulatory readiness plans and follow through on the implementation of plans to ensure accreditation and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Collaborates with hospital leadership on accreditation/regulatory matters and ensure audits, action plans, recommendations for improvement, and regulatory updates are provided.
  • Develops working knowledge and keeps abreast of Joint Commission Standards and CMS Conditions of participation as well as title 22 requirements. Facilitates interpretation of such standards for successful implementation within the organization. Designs methods of measuring compliance with standards.
  • Provides leadership and education and serves as a resource to departments regarding compliance with accreditation/regulatory standards/regulations, process/performance measurements, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, health team members, physicians, and staff. Maintains adaptability to changes in a positive, professional manner. Maintains positive working relationships and fosters a cooperative work environment.
  • Provides facility, system and program support during accreditation and regulatory events. Defines and obtains necessary reports and metrics reflecting stability as relates to accreditation and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains current knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements and develops appropriate implementation plans for new requirements.
  • Develops, monitors and revises functional processes in accordance with goals and objectives. Provides input in the development of current to intermediate goals and measures for the department. Measures and assesses performance. As requested, assists in long-range goals development.
  • Provides ongoing staff education relative to accreditation and regulatory standards and requirements. Communicates updates, new and pending changes and identified issues and concerns to all levels within the organization. Other duties as assigned


Education: Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. (A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a health-related field may be required for some positions.)

Experience: Equivalent to three years of full time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility or community health agency with references and evaluations to show appropriate skill level. (A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a national certification in a nursing specialty may be substituted for one year of the required experience. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing may be substituted for two years of the required experience.)

Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing; medical terminology and patient care routine appropriate to clinical setting; medical instruments and equipment; the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; community resources available to provide patient care and follow-up; federal, state and local laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing; identification of potential discharge needs; payor source documentation requirements and governmental regulations affecting reimbursement.

Ability to: Perform the full range of nursing duties and responsibilities in a patient care setting; plan and organize nursing plans for patients; prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and fellow employees; secure the cooperation of employees to work effectively together; assist in the instruction of entry-level nurses and ancillary personnel; keep abreast of developments in area of nursing specialization; evaluate the medical records of hospital admissions; make recommendations regarding continued stay necessity; identify discharge needs.
