Job Description:
1. COMPANYSolaris is a tissue converting company with affiliated
plants and warehouses across the US. Since 2007, we have steadily
grown in the away from home (AFH), retail private label (PL) and
retail branded (FIORA) sales channels. We offer competitive pay and

paid vacation and sick days each year. 2. JOB PURPOSEThe Product
Development Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and
coordination of retail product concepts and securing sample
approvals during the process. This position requires a unique
combination of quantitative, creative and analytical talents to
develop products: finalizing all product specifications prior to
launch with other departments under the direction of the Product &
Technical Development Manager.3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (3 - 8
AREAS)
- Handle assigned portions of the product development process
from the conceptual to the post-launch analysis phase
- Balance a variety of projects simultaneously while maintaining
a high level of attention detail on each project
- Verify / confirm product specifications and feasibilities with
production and logistics
- Use TOPS program to analyze and configure item packaging,
pallet and truck loading that meets industry and customer
standards. (will train)
- Accurately document and maintain product specifications in
project/formula files
- File / Archive all documentation of completed/approved
projects
- Leverage knowledge of flexible/offset/gravure packaging
printing during vendor press checks
- Consistently communicate with OEMs/co-packers to determine
machine capabilities and revise specs
- Develop packaging that may include new and existing formats
such as: facial boxes (cube, flat, mini, bedside, etc), litho wrap,
pack poly, bundle poly, poly bags, MFT paper sleeves, shrink wrap
film, facial poly packs, corrugated cartons (standard or
perforated), corrugated display trays
- With PTD Manager's directions, execute technical die-line
templates by using Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop, for all
product packaging types
- Coordinate with vendors for Product Development from
product/packaging die-line specifications to sample approval
- Attend plant trial runs to establish or revise new product
specs and securing sample approvals
- Attend OEMs trial runs and analyze trial run goods for product
spec capabilities
- Track new product launches and other projects to ensure
deadlines are met
- Setup, update, and maintain master list data (specs, packaging,
finished goods, loading, etc.)
- Utilize, maintain and update bar codes using the GS1 UPC code
generator program 4. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPSInternal: Marketing,
Finance, Production, PPIC, QA, Logistics, Procurement, External:
Outside vendors, suppliers, and contractors, etc. 5. KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS & ABILITIES (JOB SPECS)
- An associate's degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of experience
in retail product/packaging development; or any equivalent
combination of education and experience which would provide the
knowledge, skills, and abilities of a manufacturing
environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook,
PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and TOPS is a plus
- Knowledge of reading, legible writing, and basic mathematical
calculations
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to understand when to contact manager to receive
guidance on making judgments.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with
superiors, fellow employees, vendors, and the general public 6.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be flexible and responsive to the needs of the
department/business
- Must be able to left up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Must be able to work 8-12 hours per shift
- Must be able to sit, bend, stand and walk during scheduled
shift.
- Must be able to work scheduled overtime
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal
conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or
inspect documents.
- Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment
such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX
